Artist’s Christmas Cards - 2007 Prospectus

Mormon Artists Group presents
Artists’ Christmas Cards - 2007

We are pleased to announce our 2007 collection of holiday cards. Mormon Artists Group invited six artists from different disciplines to participate this year: Linda Etherington (painter), Cameron King (graphic designer), Daleene Menning (ceramist), Jon Moe (photographer), Tom Plummer (author), and Steve Ricks (composer).

The cards are mini-artworks; all are signed by the artists and ready to be dropped into the mail and sent to family, friends, neighbors, business associates, and commercial customers as a holiday greeting. Each card comes with a matching envelope.

We invite you to open our catalog and to discover six brilliant and original ways to say “Merry Christmas.”

The 2007 Artists’ Christmas Cards are available for a short time only. They may be purchased in any quantity, individually or as a complete set of six cards. All orders must be placed by November 1, 2007. We will ship orders after Thanksgiving. See the attached form for details.

Linda Etherington - She Wrapped Him in Swaddling Clothes
$4

For this radiant image of the Mother Mary and the Christ Child, the artist created an original oil painting, rendered in her trademark effervescence of color and pattern. The image speaks to women around the world, as every mother works in her own quiet way to wrap their loved ones in the beauty of her love.

6”x 6”, printed by the artist on watercolor paper. Includes matching envelope. Blank greeting.

Linda Etherington’s paintings are in the permanent collections of Brigham Young University and Springville Museum of Art and have been exhibited across the country, including three times in the Museum of Church History and Art, and published in the Ensign. She is represented by David Ericson Fine Art Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Cameron King - Make Room
$4

This witty revisiting of “No room at the inn” invites readers to examine their own reaction to the events of the Christmas story by placing the scene in a contemporary context. Would you hang out the “No Vacancy” sign? The artist asks instead, for us to “Make room.”

5”x 7”, offset commercial lithography. Includes matching envelope. Blank greeting.

Cameron King is a graphic designer at studioCase, a collective of BYU design graduates in New York City. He was formerly an art director at Martha Stewart Living magazine.

menning
Daleene Menning - The Three Wise Men
$5

These rich and unusual figures are based on oil drawings by the artist which draw the eye to her original vocabulary of mark-making. Together, the three images evoke a mysterious, unknowable quality perfectly suited to the nativity characters we know the least about.

4.75″ x 6.75″, printed on coated paper. Includes red envelope. Blank greeting.

Daleene Menning is an artist whose heroic-sized ceramic murals grace public architecture including Central Station and the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI, and multiple works at Grand Valley State University.

Jon Moe - The Gift
$6

Christmas is the celebration of The Gift, the infinite gift, the birth of our Savior, His life, and ultimately, His sacrifice. To this beautiful Tuscan scene captured by the artist, the addition of a bow is partic- ularly symbolic; it is in the exact center of the image tied at the horizon line. Also note the three distinct trees, the seemingly infinite space, and the simplicity amid complexity. Mesmerizing.

5″ x 7″. Printed on watercolor paper. Includes matching envelope. Blank greeting.

Jon Moe is a professional photographer in New York City. His work has appeared in Glamour, GQ, and Zink magazines, and the books The Fashion Book and Fashion Today, among other publications.

plummer
Tom Plummer - Don’t Bite Me, I’m Santa Claus
$5

The hilarious (and sadly, true) short essay of a father who dresses up as Santa to surprise his son, and the disastrous results that occur when man’s best friend intervenes.

Handbound booklet 4″ x 6″, 8 pages with color cover. Includes matching envelope.

The award-winning essayist Tom Plummer is the author of the collections, Waltzing to a Different Strummer, Eating Chocolates and Dancing in the Kitchen, Second Wind: Variations on a Theme of Growing Older, and a volume of Christmas pieces for which Don’t Bite Me,… is the title essay.

ricks
Steve Ricks - Christmas Soundscapes
$6

A brilliant new musical composition that takes the idea of holiday music and flips it upside down. To create the works, the composer takes digital samples of ambient sounds from familiar holiday locations (shopping malls, street sounds, church caroling etc.) and then uses them as fodder to mix with accoustic and other digital ideas that transforms the original material into something startlingly, refreshingly new.

Audio CD (approximate length: 50 minutes). Clear protective sleeve. Includes cardboard mailer 5″ x 5″.

Steve Ricks incorporates aspects of modernism, rock, and jazz into award-winning contemporary art music. His works have been performed by leading contemporary music ensembles and performers including Speculum Musicae, the New York New Music Ensemble, Earplay, and the Talujon Percussion Quartet. He directs the Electronic Music Studio at BYU.
